EnAct's Birthday Party

EnAct is inviting everyone to our 10th birthday party! We will celebrate at Brittingham Park with birthday games and activities. Enjoy the features of the park such as the boat rental and B-cycle station as well. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy or stay just to say hello. We will have a formal cake cutting at 12:30pm.

Watching Your Holiday Wasteline
The holidays can create many stumbling blocks for our sustainability goals. Celebrations, travel, gifts, and banquet feasts conjure up images of lavish bounty. Come join us for a workshop and discussion on how to reduce excess consumption during the holiday season. Selecting reusable materials and environmentally conscious produce, along with other waste savings choices, can assist you in reducing total waste during the holiday season.

World Car Free Day (September 22, 2010)
On Wednesday, September 22 from 5:00-6:30pm EnAct and Community Car hosted a walk around the capitol with Mayor Dave followed by a meet and greet on the sidewalk outside of our office where alternative transportation prizes were raffled and Mayor Dave and Councilman Steve Arnold made a short speech. Paddy Rourke won the grand prize Schwinn Voyaguer GS bike. |

Gorham Deconstruction Sale
Our Deconstruction Sale
was an overwhelming success. In order
to minimize waste and maximize reuse, Madison
Environmental Group coordinated the removal
of materials from 5 houses which are being deconstructed
or relocated. All of the items were sold
or donated. Some of the doors, floors and light
fixtures will be available for sale at the Habitat
for Humanity ReStore. Together we saved
an estimated 6500 pounds of material from the
landfill. learn

Earth Day Open House
(April 22, 2005)
Thanks for celebrating Earth
Day with us on Friday, April 22 at 25 N. Pinckney
on the Capitol Square. Madison Environmental
Group, EnAct, Community Car, and L'Etoile celebrated
the arrival of spring, greeting visitors with
free food and drink on our sidewalk. At the
Overture Center construction site, we served
sub sandwiches to thank the workers for their
accomplishment: an 80% recycling rate for construction
waste. |

One hundred people, old friends
and new, visited us Saturday, December 11, and
made this event a big success. The party was
co-hosted by EnAct
, a program we developed to help individuals
conserve resources. Our visitors, children and
adults, learned about green gift-giving and
had fun creating homemade gifts and enjoying
homemade goodies. If you missed our gathering,

Car-Free Challenge
(September 22 - October 5 annually)
Madison Environmental Group
organized the first Car-Free Challenge in 2003
to raise awareness of the environmental, health
and economic benefits of reducing car travel.
Each year, we offer motivation to people who
try to live car-free or "car-lite"
for two weeks. We measure results to demonstrate
that individual actions add up to significantly
reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve

EnAct Summer Celebration
(June 21, 2004)
We honored EnAct participants
at our first annual EnAct celebration organized
by Renata Grillova Vail. We gave out prizes,
including a front loading washing machine donated
by MGE, a night's stay at Inn Serendipity B&B,
and a Community Car free trial. Lisa Kivirist
and John Ivanko, owners of Inn Serendipity and
authors of Rural Renaissance gave a slide show
presentation of living the good life in rural
Wisconsin. Strawberry shortcake was enjoyed
by all. |

Green Roof Chicago
Tour (June 14, 2004)
We invited clients and colleagues
on a tour of three green roofs in Chicago led
by Amanda Fuller. The tour included Peggy Notebaert
Nature Museum, Chicago's City Hall, and the
Chicago Center for Green Technology. Green roofs
save energy, absorb storm water, reduce urban
heat island effect, create aerial greenspace
and extend the lifetime of the roof. learn

Earth Day Open House

More than 250 people celebrated
Earth Day with us. Rebecca Grossberg organized
the Greening Your Workplace themed event. We
gave tours of our green office practices, invited
environmental organizations and vendors to display
their information, and served food donated by
Mifflin Street Co-op, Scotts Pastries, Just
Coffee and Organic Valley. Next year we invite
you to our office to celebrate the 35th anniversary
of Earth Day on April 22, 2005. |

Charles Munch Art Exhibit

We invited clients and friends
to an art exhibit of Charles Munch's paintings
on display at our office. Charles led the tour
and described his bold, thought provoking work
that investigates the interaction between humans

Green Office Presentation
and Tour (December 10, 2003)
Sonya Newenhouse gave a lunch
presentation of our green renovation experience
to the Madison Chapter of the National Association
of Women in Construction. After the L'Etoile
lunch, Amanda Fuller and Maureen Mahle gave
a tour of our green renovation. Some of the
green highlights are reused doors, VOC free
paint, reused light fixtures and daylighting. |

Our 5 Year Anniversary
(December 1, 2003)
We celebrated our 5 year
anniversary, the launch of Community Car and
the purchase of the Crescent Building with 200
clients and friends. Canape's were served, wine
was flowing and the all three floors of the
Crescent Building were electric. Thanks to Odessa
Piper for donating the fabulous L'Etoile food
and all of you who shared the day with us!
