You’ll
keep a simple log of all your travel for 2 weeks.
In the process, you’ll
learn a lot about your driving habits and have some
fun trying new things. The Car-Free Challenge
applies to ALL trips you make using ANY mode of transportation
other than driving alone. This includes commuting as
well as shopping, errands and social activities. You
can make a significant impact by using these strategies
to reduce your car miles:
-
REPLACE car trips with walking, biking or taking
the bus
-
REMOVE
unnecessary trips by combining errands, shopping
or working from home
-
REDUCE a fraction of the total trip mileage by
carpooling
|
Remember: you only need to
eliminate one car trip per week to participate.
There
are many transportation options available in Madison. Choose
the one that's
right for you.
When
you sign on as a participant and log your trips, we are
able to calculate the environmental and financial impacts
of your efforts, and the results of our total collective
action. Last year, 300 participants reduced 16,000 miles
and 13,000 pounds of global warming pollution.
We will share this year’s results and recognize your
achievements at the Awards
Event.
You
have options for how you log
your trips:
- Enter each trip in a convenient
on-line form
- Print
a worksheet and log your trips by hand, then mail
or fax it to us
