Summer 2005
An
exciting pilot project has been funded by a Wisconsin
DOA Division of Energy grant for Madison Environmental Group
to partner with Culver's Restaurants to develop a fleet
of cars capable of running on used vegetable oil in place
of traditional diesel fuel. We will provide a toolkit of
technical and financial information to assist Culver's franchise
owners in converting diesel vehicles to run on waste fryer
oil from their restaurants. Vegetable oil is a renewable
fuel source that produces zero net greenhouse gas emissions,
zero sulfur emissions, and less particulate matter ("soot")
than diesel or gasoline. It can also provide significant
cost savings over petroleum-based fuels.
How can you run
your diesel car or truck on vegetable oil fuel?
To run your diesel vehicle on vegetable
oil, you need to add a second fuel tank to hold the vegetable
oil, and make some slight modifications to the engine to
heat the oil to a hot enough operating temperature. More
information, do-it-yourself kits, and on-line forums are
