Historic Manufactured
Gas Plant at Fond du Lac Site |
We
transformed brownfields to greenfields for
Alliant Energy in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The installation
is the result of a redevelopment plan we designed to create
a 9-acre greenspace on a former manufactured gas plant site.
The space includes a tallgrass prairie, a dog park and puppy
park for use by the Fond du Lac community. The dog park
is planted in native prairie vegetation. Itl includes mowed
paths and a parking area for approximately 25 cars.
Madison
Environmental Group facilitated a redevelopment planning
team with Alliant Energy and the City of Fond du Lac in
1999-2000. We developed a solution that benefits people
and the environment. The dog park will be a visually pleasing
space on a former industrial site. It is near a bike path
and will be easily accessible to people walking dogs along
the path. The City of Fond du Lac will lease and maintain
the dog park and puppy park. Alliant Energy will continue
to monitor the remediation activities on site.
